Joachim S. Müller: I've been crediting them to the photographer's Flickr account, because often (especially on Flickr) there's no clear name to use (especially on Flickr, where you can change the name at any point, but not the username), and because it links directly back to the photographer anyway. When it's on the photographer's website (if I find it there), I credit to the website, and give the photographer's name if known.
The photo by you that I found on one of our posts does, in fact, have your name on it anyway. All the Creative Commons license calls for is attribution, which is simply "you must attribute the author and/or licensor in the manner they require". When there is nothing specifically stating that they must be attributed with the creator's full name (and when no full name is clearly provided), I default to username and a link to the website.
